Reader Comments Regarding More Than 101 Ways to Know You’re a Medical Writer

This book will make a fabulous gift for any medical writer or medical editor -- show them you support their work, even if you can't get your head around what it is they do for a living! It was created as a lark by members of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA), with sections such as "Medical Writing vs. Pie Baking" and "The Life of a Medical Writer."

I didn't contribute anything, but I'm finding myself on nearly every page. "You know you're a medical writer when you can't help critiquing pharmaceutical ads to anyone in your living room who will listen." This book even understands my lifestyle as a freelancer: "You know you're a freelance medical writer when you consider the walk to the mailbox to be a big event in your day." While it's informational in its way, this book is mainly a load of fun.

This is a gem of a little book. It is nicely organized and full of amusing observations that will ring a bell with any medical writer. And for those not in the profession, it provides some basic information on the profession and a glimpse into the world of medical writing. As a medical writer myself, I was intrigued by the title of this book and found it to be a delightful addition to the texts and resource books I’ve accumulated.

As an upcoming medical writer, I particularly appreciated information pertaining to the benefits and drawbacks of medical writing. When exploring new career options, it is beneficial to have a realistic approach and gain perspectives from experienced individuals. "More Than 101 Ways To Know You're A Medical Writer" is a treasure trove of fun and giggles. One of my favorite sections of the book is "The Freelance Life". Although I'm not a medical writer, I could relate to so many of the humorous observations in this section. There is also a section containing amusing terms coined by AMWA workshop attendees. These "medical" terms describe all sorts of hilarious human conditions. I highly recommend this book to writers, freelancers, and anyone who appreciates humorous observations on the daily lives of all of us!
